Snow in Mexico January 2011
We went out on Saturday to visit a little town about 35 miles away to check it out for a Valentine’s overnight. It was about 44 degrees at 11:00 when we left, but the sky was a gorgeous blue with lots of sun. As we drove out of town we noticed that all the surrounding mountain tops were white with snow. About 25 miles from here on a long upward stretch of road we began to see little pockets of snow along the roadside. Then we started to pass cars that were pulled off and children running all along the edge of the road. When we slowed down we saw they were joyously collecting the snow, making snow balls and tiny snowmen on the hoods of their cars.
It hasn’t snowed here for 35 years so the kids had never seen or touched snow. When we reached our destination, Pozos, we discovered that it had snowed an inch the night before and covered everything with white, including all the cactus. The town is 7562 feet high. We heard that the night before had been like a fiesta with people coming from all the surrounding area and filling up the square to see the miracle of a white village. Abrazos – us
